Davis Cup

The Davis Cup is coming to Next Gen and the ASB Arena from 7th-9th April. New Zealand meets South Korea in what will be a hotly contested tie. Saturday and Sunday will also be family day, with Tennis NZ providing some kids’ clinics to keep them entertained whilst mum and dad watch some tennis.  Members are able to view the tennis from the balcony beside the lounge, or tickets can be purchased from Ticketek at http://premier.ticketek.co.nz/shows/show.aspx?sh=DAVISCUP17.

Please be aware that the public changing rooms will be closed from the 3rd-10th April due to this event.

Preschool Tennis Program

We’re pleased to advise we’re offering another Hot Shots Blue session, during the day!  We understand it can be tricky to get the pre-schoolers to after school hours classes, so in Term 2 we’re offering a session at 11am on Fridays. Running for a 10 week term, this session is 30 minutes long and is suitable for children aged 3 and over. For further information or to book please email Anna at anna.ruepert@nextgenclubs.co.nz or contact reception.

Court Booking and Access Procedure

Just a reminder that it is essential to book a tennis court before commencing play, even if the court is empty. If you have a booking and decide to use a different court, please check with reception first. A reminder that a $10 fee does apply if you have a booking that you do not use, particularly when it is an indoor court. In order to record your attendance for your booking you must swipe your card at reception or at the carpark entrance. Please ensure you have your membership card on you when you’re on the court, as we will be checking membership cards for those without a booking.

To allow fair and equal access to the tennis courts for all of our Full members, a reminder that each member is limited to 90 minutes of court hire per day.

Winter Interclub

Summer interclub finishes on 8 April, which means the tennis season is officially over. We’re of the opinion that tennis is absolutely a year round sport, so would love to see some members playing winter interclub. Tennis Auckland offers a couple of options in the winter – a fortnightly Saturday competition, with the option of singles, doubles or mixed doubles. If you’re interested in playing, please email Anna. Entries open on 27 March. In addition to this is Ladies Winter Indoor, which runs at Scarbro Tennis Centre during the day, with A, B and C grades on offer.  This competition is not a club competition, so for further information visit http://www.tennisauckland.co.nz/tennis-auckland/ladies-winter-indoor/.

Tennis Racquet Advice

When looking at what racquet to purchase for your tennis needs, the options are almost endless. Rather than choosing a racquet that matches your shoes, come see Tania in Membership services for advice before you buy. Determining your needs, whether it is power, control, weight or size, she will find your perfect match. We do offer trial racquets on almost all of the popular brands. Tania is in Membership Services from Monday to Thursday, 9am-5.30pm.

Learn to Play Tennis

Next Gen is pleased to introduce yet another new program!  Designed for adult beginners, this is one of the most enjoyable ways to learn tennis.

You will learn how to play in 90 minute group lessons, run from 7.30-9pm on a Monday night for 6 weeks, starting 8th May. Sessions include learning the main strokes, including the serve, forehand, backhand and net game, along with basic strategy, rules and etiquette.  Learn to Play is a perfect way to ease yourself into this fabulous sport. To book, please contact Anna at anna.ruepert@nextgenclubs.co.nz. The class is limited to 8 people and is $225 for the 6 weeks.
