Winter Lessons Create Strong Summer Swimmers

As the weather gets colder, we encourage our members to continue with their swimming lessons. It’s a great opportunity to develop the techniques and water safety skills to become a strong and capable swimmer just in time for summer.

Safety
66% of drownings occur outside of the summer months (Royal Life Saving National Drowning Report 2021). Prolonged time off from swimming lessons can result in a loss of fitness and swimmers may forget important safety skills.

Progression
Swimming is a skill that requires practice and persistence. Taking time off from swimming lessons will cause a regression in skills and reduce fitness. Children are likely to fall behind their peers who continue with lessons over winter and will need to relearn skills they worked hard building during summer.

Health
As children spend more time inside during colder times of the year, they are likely to get less exercise. Physical fitness is important to maintaining good health. Our indoor pool is heated and will remain warm to swim in. When going to or from the pool, ensure you wear warm clothing and a beanie or hat to cover wet hair. Hairdryers are available in our female changerooms.
