Auckland Tennis Court Improvements – Updated 1 August 2026
An Important Update on Courts 2, 3 and 4.
From the week commencing 17 August, courts 2, 3 and 4 will temporarily close while we undertake major remediation works.
We recognise that tennis members experienced disruption during last year’s court works, and we understand that another extended closure will be disappointing.
Unfortunately, the remediation completed last year has not delivered the durability or standard we expected. The underlying court base has reached the end of its useful life, which means further surface repairs alone would not provide the lasting result our members deserve.
Rather than continue with another short-term repair, we are going further with a fundamentally stronger, long-term solution.
What the works will involve
The existing court surfaces will be removed and the underlying structure carefully prepared, surveyed and waterproofed.
A new post-tensioned concrete slab will then be installed before the courts are finished with an eight-layer GreenSet playing surface.
This construction method is used for high-performance tennis courts around the world and is designed to provide a stronger, more stable base with significantly improved resistance to cracking.
Court availability
Three of the club’s 12 courts, courts 2, 3 and 4 will be affected by the works.
The remaining indoor, outdoor and rooftop courts, will continue to be available for members. Our tennis team will monitor bookings and court availability throughout the project to help make the best possible use of the remaining capacity.
The refurbished courts will reopen to members following the ASB Classic tournament in January.
Temporary impacts
Members may notice increased construction noise near the lounge during the early stages of the project. Hoardings will be installed around the work area to reduce noise and visual disruption wherever possible.
Some car park spaces may also be temporarily unavailable during periods of wet weather or when required for construction access.
We will provide further information if any significant temporary impacts are expected.
